Morning all. Seems like I had a similar experience. Rather too easy in parts. Favourites were 7/17 and 8, largely because I was pleased to see how they worked relatively quickly. 13 is quite neat but easily guessable from the enumeration. 24 I always associate with the pub of the same name in Euston! If there’s a theme I don’t see it.

Completely flummoxed by 18a. Any help appreciated. I have a poisonous answer to 8d which has to be right but while I see the anagram, I can't see a definition in the clue. Didn't find this such a breeze as you guys. Please stop me scratching my head over 18a so that I can keep whatever hair may be left.

18a is a cryptic definition. Where might you see images of the two things in the clue?

For 8d think about the usual abbreviation for the poisonous answer you have, then look again at the clue

Hi Lucertola,

8d - I'm sure your answer is correct - it's a subtractive anagram

18a - The "scales" might not necessarily be those on a fish - think where you might see "fish scales", in a newspaper, for instance

Thanks, Jono and Brendan. 18a obvious with your advice. Still puzzled about no definition of the anagram, but in the great scheme of things, who cares, I finished the puzzle! Have a great day.

Thanks Lucertola, in regards the definition for 8d, look at the abbreviation for your answer.

No one’s mentioned 12 yet, but it’s an unusual construction and rather clever I think.

Hi Jono, do you mean 12a or 13a?
