Thanks to Chalicea for an enjoyable puzzle.

Took a while to figure out what was going on and even with the full quote and all but two letters of the person's name, it stool took an age to find on Google.

Before I file it away, can I get some clarity on the final E from the extra letters. I'm assuming it comes from 35d but I just cannot parse it?

Woops, should have given the clue...

35d - According to Ed, put an end to interminable breaks in Parliament proceedings (5)

I hav e the answer and am pretty sure the wordplay produces an extra E but that's as far as I get.

Got the theme but have not quite finished - help with ‘ a female active environmentalist may be so corrupt (8) ‘ please . The last part must be green or reen but I can’t see a word or definition here.

Hi Aslac,

3 letter "female" minus extra letter + single letter "active" then the rest as you say. I didn't know the definition but it's in Chambers.

... if you see a word that just looks like a colour delve further in Chambers and you'll see it also means "incorruptible".

Thanks Brendan - I had that as a guess but couldn’t convince myself quite . Relatively gentle this week after a run ( to my view) of tricky and not completed weeks . The title made me smile.. many remember them fondly from days gone by. Never heard the quote.

Brendan, I think the final e comes from 40d.
