Thanks. I've solved some and made a guess what may be going on.
I think I might be missing a letter in the wordplay for 4?

That was quick Chris! If I’m guessing correctly I think your missing letter comes from a longer word for ‘family’ than the one you have

making good progress, but the obvious answer to 9 doesn't seem to fit in!

i love 7 - never seen that trick before!

i first had a different but very similar word at 12, but it didn't quite parse.
