4d British soldiers: time to replace leader of Red Army. Ans must be "Tommies" but can't find any support for Rommies being a word or having anything to do with the Russian/Chinese Armies or Liverpool/Man U supporters. No doubt I'll kick myself when it's explained.

I imagine the Red Army refers to Commies, so you simply replace the C with T

Ah of course -I got blinded to the leader of red (r) having to be replaced by t and as the answer was tommies, thought that the word in the clue must be rommies. Doh!
