Julesvern I’m with you on 3d can’t see the homophone for dazes unless perhaps it’s being used as a verb?

Also 7d two possible answers fit the crossers but neither quite works. One answer is a synonym for state so seems plausible but can’t see why and neither answer is giving me a green tick in the app….

femmenoire, in 3d "dazes" is a vb. "State" is the defn. of 7d, so if you don't get the tick perhaps the error is elsewhere?

I think this is a great puzzle, really enjoyed it. Many thanks to Everyman.
It took me a while, partly due to how much I drank last night (brother visiting, watching the game). Unlike some others here, I really like 24, so I’m making it my COD. FOI 1a, LOI 12, which I think is a subtractive anagram. Can anyone confirm or correct? I think it uses U as in U and non U.

I'm in the (freezing) UK, so the second of the 2 defs in 9a was fine for me. I think ophthalmologist would have been preferable to spin doctor in the first, though!

PS Re the dodgy homophone for dazes in 3d, I guess it's what happens when a boxer clobbers an opponent with a left hook ... ----s him backwards.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be Everyman 3974?
