Thoroughly enjoyed this today - took me longer than recent weeks, but I prefer to finish it over coffee and toast in the garden rather than over my cup of tea in bed (as the last few weeks have been). Some clever anagrams and top class clueing imo. 5d was my LOI but also my COD.

Can anyone explain to me how the spoonerism works at 9a ?
I have the only possible answer but the spoonerism eludes me.

You are obviousy right, but that seems like a pretty poor spoonerism to me.

Carmelista, that’s a fun story. I know the Victoria, even though it’s on the other side of town to me. I’m always happy to see how many people quote Everyman as their introduction to crosswords :-)

Please can someone help me with the first word of 1a. I've stared at it for hours and can't parse it. Maybe I have it wrong but I don't think so.

Maybe something to do with small beer?
