Old one again from me. I can’t parse 47a “Part, upper class for Oscar, includes quote about handbag”. I have RETICULE for the answer, a handbag, and can see CITE backwards for the quote about bit, and upper class is presumably the U, but Oscar?

Role, part, replacing O for Oscar with U, upper class, all around CITE reversed

Clever clue! When I saw The importance... at the Old Vic several years ago, Lady Bracknell didn't voice "handbag".

Agreed, Chrise, a nice clue. You must have been disappointed not to hear it …

On the contrary, the contrast with Edith Evans was quite refreshing!
