Yes, Mathprof, I very much enjoyed today’s G. Similar theme in the FT if you’re interested, but Picaroon’s grid design was great fun. There was a nice observation on 225 about the positioning of the two players in the grid which I wouldn’t have picked up on. I was at that 1980 final as it happens.

Ps. I intended that Clueless make a slight nod to the same theme without being too obvious but you’ve picked up on that already I see!

Quite a surprise to see Picaroon in the Monday slot, but a treat.
I only noticed two of the three grid features implied by 12 (see 225 for details), and those only after filling the grid. 😳

Yes, Jono. I am a big fan and a recreational player. Being a Picaroon puzzle, some of the clues were tricky, and I still don't understand 13a. I mean I see the wordplay, but I don't know the term. Slang?

Re 13 they are fictional children’s tv characters from the 1970s. Well worth googling :-)

I'm always pleased when a setter goes the extra mile in regards attention to detail - and Picaroon has certainly done that with this first-rate and aptly timed themed puzzle:-)
