Thanks this was someone I didn't know, so I had the letters right but didn't find them in my dictionary.

I thought I'd finished a while back but, as no-one has mentioned 1ac, maybe I have the wrong solution — especially as I can't parse the clue.
I have the last three words as the defn and "caught" providing two letters, but I can't see how "best" works.
Can somebody put me right, please?

1a - Is a homophone/caught of "best" (the tense looks wrong but it's in Chambers as "selected hence choicest or best) - definition is last 4 words.

Thnx, brendan. My tunnel vision usually expands after a day or two looking at something else, but not in this case. Another entry in my 'homophone indicator' collection!

Thanks, Brendan. Would never have worked that out on my own, as I've never seen the show, let alone knew it was known by its acronym.

Thanks Prospero, I think the name of it's former participants appeared in a Genius puzzle a few months ago, the one where we had to identify an actor, writer, journalist . athlete etc.

also, really not sure about the "celeb" in 20 - I take it the little social climber is the last three letters of the actual word.

ah, had the wrong solution - so the celeb is obvious but is the t "essentially a little"?
