I thought this was quite 26. Nothing really stood out as a COD. FOI 1d, LOI 26 - not that it was tricky, I just got there last. Happy to be 24 early though as I’ve plenty of gardening to do!

I thought this was a good Everyman, thanks to the setter.
FOI 1d, LOI 25. COD tie between 14 and 25.
Particularly enjoyed the NW quadrant, had difficulties in SW quadrant which slowed me down.

I thought this was a bit harder than usual. Got a bit stuck in SW corner, and last one in was 12D.

Good fun I thought. Small eyebrow raise for ‘average’ in 1a and the synonym in the answer, which are not equivalent in a mathematical sense, or is there another meaning?

It's a statistic that is one of the 3 main ways to state an average.

As you'll see if you type "average statistics" into google. Not that it's very useful in practice.

... although it is useful if the data cannot be represented by numerical values, e.g. the most "average" surname in the UK.

Yevrah. Apologies. My Internet went down literally after posting that last post many hours ago. 30 degrees and lovely here. Quite a nice surprise to see that clue come in today.

Forgot to mention the rhyming pair also. We'll spotted those that did.

Thanks to Everyman for a thoroughly enjoyable puzzle. Lots of lovely clues but my COD is the wonderful homophone at 19d - "Join up with Greek character, we hear, for something to eat" (4,3)

Back to see if West Ham can qualify for Europa league 🤔 Tense times .....
