AND, NOR and OR are all "gates" and I've seen them all used before in this way.

Combater, if there's such a word? Comb = one with teeth, 'a' from the clue, somehow bear = ter?

20d One coming in with tea tray has shoes back to front (8)
Could be servator but where are the back to front shoes?

5. I don’t know what crossers you have , but could it be COMBATED, past tense, so bear = Ted

20d - STRAINER (Trainers with S moved from the back to the front)
