It's good fun but I've hit a bit of a dead end. Got the extra letters/message from the 9 clues and (I think) all the clashes. Can't really 'join the dots' to make anything resembling my initial thought on the title of the work and inspiration for it yet so need to dig a bit.

Q? Has anyone found an answer that has more than one clash?

The parsing of 36a 'Wearing belt, Ian dances with Joy' has me puzzled. Understand 'Ian dances' and 'Joy' but belt? Unless it's to do with boxing?

I have two clashes in 7D and 20D
I've got the name of the character and the depiction, not one known to me before though.

Oh and 36A, think of 'belt' in terms of running fast

Done. It isn't one I knew in this form either. I did spend rather too long trying to make the clashes pattern look like a windmill. 😄

If we draw a single line in order of the letters that make up the character it only makes sense of the 'depiction' if the page is inverted (I think) or should we disregard the letter order and get it the right way up? Or...

That's what I thought drxx, the letters are in order for the name but not for the depiction? I did wonder if the depiction should be in letter-name order as a reference to the 50% extra (or less!) but the preamble is pretty clear
