Yes I like the Plough too. My favourite is the Cardinal's Hat, the oldest pub in Worcester I think.

I used to go to the ladies pavilion regularly. Cake was 50p per slice and a cup of tea 30p for years. Then they put the prices up considerably and I stopped going. That, and the wonderful Tudor scoreboard are the things I miss most, apart form Hick.

Interesting stories re your son and sports stars. I would never have thought that Sir Alastair would attend concerts or Burger King. I suppose he is a music lover, having been a choir boy at St Pauls.

He was driving home alone rather than getting the team coach back to Essex. A long drive for him and I hope he enjoyed the snack.

I visited the Cardinal`s Hat - the oldest pubs are always the most interesting!
Just booked a 5 night trip to Cardiff in Sept - Sofia Gardens is another Cricket Ground I`ve never been to! Hope the rain keeps away from Old Trafford 🌞

Glad you called in at the Cardinals - it was on Four in a Bed a few years ago. I dont know if the landlord is still there.

I am OT for the first 3 days - forecast better than it was so should get a lot of play.

Again, I wish that media presenters would check what "beg the question" actually means. The idiot presenting "Dinousaurs, myths and monsters" obviously doesn't know. I think I'll delete the rest of it!

Here's another pet hate - I find it difficult to understand how often people get this wrong. From a book I'm reading:
"Posie firmly believed that you couldn't underestimate the importance of knowing good people in the right places, especially at tricky times."
She means "overestimate", of course.

I am being particularly grumpy today, but why do commentators say "ampitheatre" when the word is "ampHitheatre"?

Chrise - I've never understood it either but Mary Beard also pronounces it ampi... when talking of Roman ruins.

Pronunciation can be a minefield. It's common for people to pronounce asphalt as ash-falt.
