Hi MPRS,

Did you ever get Fawlty Towers in the US? (You are from there, aren't you?)

I'm not getting the puzzle in the app this week. Is anyone else having problems?

Hi Rocky,

No problems here, although it did take about 20 seconds for the green tick to appear.

I'm an empty grid away from a green tick right now. It's just not appearing. If anyone has a link I might try a different route.

Do you mean the app or the Guardian's website (below)

https://www.theguardian.com/crosswords/series/cryptic

The app is from Google Play or iTunes so there is no link, as such.

No I mean the app. But that link works as a back up. Thanks. I don't know why I'm not getting it.

Re 3dn, I think that the ‘fruits’ at the end leads to one of the accepted plural forms of the larger fruit, from which you subtract to get a plural form of the smaller fruit (which are collectively described as ‘fruit’).
That’s a terribly involved explanation, but I hope it makes sense.

rogissimo, I fully agree with your explanation of 3. The plural may be a bit awkward, but I'll maintain 3's COD rating because I find it so witty.

@geeker

Hi, I don't see any problem with 3D - given that "fruit" can be singular or plural the first word refers to the longer intermediate part of the parsing in the plural whereas the solution has to have a plural indicator hence "fruits" at the end.
