Re Orff clue: Chambers gives both fro and by as adverbs meaning away so "turned back" is the reversal indicator - here fro as a synonym of by rather than by indicating placement.

Wake up and photograph Oscar in costume (4, 3, 2, 2)

SNAP OUT OF IT

Not a query but an amazing coincidence.
I have a two-month-old grandson called Oscar. At birth he had been given a sailor suit. On the day of the crossword his mother, my daughter, sent a What'sApp photo of him wearing it.

In the ORFF clue I took "turned" to be the reversal indicator and "back" to be a synonym of "fro" (to and fro, there and back) and the "by" as a link between the two elements of wordplay. Though Ginge's parsing works just as well.

Rather an orfful clue!
