"you shouldn't have" TA + STY "pen"

Smoking as in smoking hot - I think!

Thanks, Brendan. The STY bit had occurred to me but not the TA. I was put off TASTY since the BRB doesn't give SMOKING as a synonym.

Some rubbish clues recently in the ST.

The ST doesn't refer to the BRB. Collins & Oxford are preferred and both include 'smoking' as excellent or attractive.

I agree that there have been some very poor clues in the ST crossword recently. Hard clues are fine if there is a nice D'oh moment when the penny drops, but these are more "Oh, really, that's what they did, OK then". They are not clever, in my opinion, just obscure.

I don't think I will bother with any more by Dean Mayer.

Also I still have no idea of 5 down.. Web areas advance, given the same power supply (10)

5 D. Subdomain, web areas, computer stuff. Sub = advance, lend, +/given Do = ditto, the same, Main = power supply.
