Hi All,
I'm stumped by the following, from an old Daily Mail crossword:

"Trumpet perhaps faded away after perfect introduction (4,3)"

The answer is "DEAF AID".

I presume "trumpet" is the literal definition here, but I can't see how the rest of it works.

Any insights would be much appreciated!

I wasn't familiar with AI = perfect, but perhaps should have been able to infer it. Nice clue in the end.
