Any thoughts on my QUARTET query?

sorry bobbycollins - no idea. quintet would fit as well.

For 19d, QUINTET seems to be the band, but I don't see how the clue is parsed

Thanks, both. 19 down is a real head scratcher. Pretty sure that it's QUARTET since 23 across has to be OVATION; giving the A.

I'm scratching my head on the QUARTET answer too! Also, the last part of 7 Down is GOOK - how does this relate to "to work out" or "amount to work out"?
7 Down gave me a "B" to start off 11 Across, the clue for which is:-
"Soothing words remain in the memory? On the contrary. (7)
I have B-O-I-E but can't see a word to fit.

Bobby, and others, I've seen elsewhere (so am taking no credit!) that Give and Live both have four letters, they both show a Quartet.

It looks like BROMIDE, but I can't parse it

Rocketman, Soothing words... is Bromide - ROM, computer memory inside Bide, reside. On the contrary indicates that the Memory is in the Bide.
