Whetstone, for 14 A, from earlier - should it be 'disciple' rather than 'discipline'? That works in that you take the M, middle letter, heart, from Simon, one of the Biblical disciples. Sion is a holy place, it probably has a few mentions in the Bible.

@malone....re 14a....yes, you're right. Predictive texting on my mobile was the reason for the mistake. That, and not double-checking before submitting.

Seems a loose definition...

I think it probably is "cow" but as a verb, "to subdue the spirit of" and "to keep under" - so 'bull(y) would seem fine.
