what about Pub for Local?

off the top of my head -
Locale is the location where an event occurs,
Local refers to locations near you.

Sue prob knows this anyway.

sue, locale is always a noun (meaning locality) whereas local is usually an adjective (although it can be a noun , eg when it is the pub).
