This week we have a themed puzzle by Picaroon based around the various meanings of the word "score".

FOI was 10a followed by 2d but my first themed answer was 3d.

I found parts of this very tricky indeed and there are still a couple of answers I haven't fully parsed, although I'm confident of my answers, namely .....

21d - I don't get the "doubled in cricket" reference.

15a - I get most of it but can't see how my remaining letters equate to "dugout".

If you do get stuck there is a long anagram in the acrosses and one in the downs.

COD - I had three contenders this week - 16d and the darkly humorous "put in black vehicle" and the Spoonerism at 26a but I've chosen the excellent 14a - Computing bores rarely represented in books (8) - where every word plays a role in the parsing and definition.

Thanks to Picaroon for a fun and challenging crossword.

As always, please feel free to leave your thoughts on this week's puzzle and/or ask for a hint if you get stuck.

Stay safe:-)

Finding it difficult so far. But if I got 21D right, it may be referring to a newer format.

Hi Brendan,
15: you'll kick yourself, but "dugout" just indicates a hidden.
Thanks to Picaroon, I enjoyed this immensely but found it difficult and tricky.
FOI 2, LOI 2 (it was originally FOI, but with an error!), COD 8.
Many other COD contenders incl. 6, 19, 11, 18, 16, 22a.
Still unsure about 24, haven't parsed.
Agreed with akg on 21, though I know practically nothing about the subject.

Hi Akg,

Yes, it's the new format I've got but why "doubled"?

Hi Geeker,

Ahhh!!! How did I miss that hidden 🥵

15: sorry, mistyped, "welcomed in" indicates the type of clue.

OMG! What a moron I am ...

21d - I see it now and it is so blindingly obvious!!

Hi Geeker. Thinking 24A is a notable name in two fields.

Thanks, akg. I think see it now, and my filled-in guess was wrong. I'm American and far less than expert in the 2 sports that (afaict) figure in this puzzle.

Hi Geeker,

24a - was (and, for many, still is) a household name in the UK but, when I saw it, I did wonder how our friends across the pond and down under might cope.

I've never seen 6d hyphenated before.
