abicoop, the def. in 11a is Ayrshire's own so a Scottish word for own. There is more than one choice though, and I originally had it wrong; had to adjust to get the third word in the end game.

lumen, 1d is from the French roman a clef; not uncommon in crossword land. The word for vast amounts in 34d is also familiar in crosswords. The word defined by cartloads is obscure indeed, but I ran across it for the first time in a Listener just a few weeks back.

Thanks, I managed to work out the three thematic words from the letters I had anyway, but good to know how that clue worked! I feel like I need a Scottish dictionary for these puzzles, lots of their terms seem to crop up!

Greetings from the sandbank. I have a full grid but am missing one thematic item. If I am right, It relates to the extra word in 16 across. Can anyone give me an indication of the answer in which it appears?

Also is the thematic item in 34 down a three letter or a two letter one - if I am right it could be either?

Long week ahead so , with the help above, I'll carry on to try and find the three other words. It's a nice puzzle so my thanks to the setter.
