Buddy @12. Last week's Listener was a numerical crossword. I'm not actually sure what the constraints are on composing one, but it seems that the entries are numbers. I don't know what the rules are for the clues. In the two Listeners I've done the clues have been algebraic expressions. I just sort of threw out the challenge for fun because mattrom commented about it after last week's WPR. Curious to see what all you clever folks would come up with.

Something like

a^2 + b^2 + c^2 = n

a^2 + d^2 = n-3

where a, b, c, and d are distinct positive integers. Then n = 56 would be the smallest such number (unless I've made a mistake.)

Dorrien, I have to say that fj had a pretty clever cryptic clue though. Just trying something new here. The main thing is to have fun with it.
