Wow, Mattrom has had some runaway victories this week. Perhaps she should have consulted with the Biden campaign and we could have had that settled much sooner.

I tried to compose a clue using Biden as J(o)E, but couldn't get it to work.
I don't think his name will lend itself to setters as much as his predecessor's.

I also liked mattrom @ 18 but slight preference for aristo @ 24.

31 clues from 14 setters. At the time of writing mathprofrockstar's vote is delayed in the post and is anyway subject to a legal challenge. Thank you for the other votes.

With a substantial North American presence here I learned two things about JIVE. Firstly I'd never considered what the BeeGees were on about in 'Jive Talkin'' - this idea of deceit. Secondly I never knew that the dance is not called jive in the USA.

Anyway, congratulations to mattrom on another landslide victory with:
Sleazy bar offering a joint for little money and music (4)

She gained five votes and no one else got more than one.
You deserve two prizes, mattrom. I may have chosen a challenging word but I hope you agree it's a feel-good dance.

and, inevitably, the BeeGees

Thanks PaulH.

Congrats, mattrom. I liked your clue, but I wasn't convinced by J for "joint". Is it one of those where a compound abbreviation is being used to justify the letter? RSJ is "rolled steel joint", for example, but I think it's rather like taking B for "broadcasting" because it stands for that in BBC.

Apologies in advance if you have a better example!

Congrats Mattrom and thanks for hosting PaulH.
Thanks Fj for the vote and to Chris, Spike and Tyke for likes. Much appreciated

Chris, I note Wikipedia has J for joint as street slang on the page “Joint (cannabis)”, not saying that is the intended reference ;-)

A big thank you to aristo, spike, dorrien, buddy and paul for your votes, and to jono, tyke, FJ and ginge for the mention.
Thanks also to Paulh for the challenge - I enjoyed the prizes.
Ginge, I did eventually get your clue. (Perhaps it's better not to ask)
Mprs - you are correct, of course. I wasn't familiar with VJ Day. It was called VP Day here, but not often mentioned now.
I wonder where the First Dogs get to sleep at the White House?
Hope to see you all next weekend.

congrats mattrom & thanks paulh.

J=joint is in Chambers so it seems kosher to me.
