I'm sure you'll have real words left in the grid, candledave - it was my oversight, that's all (but I thought it might be worth a mention).

Think I know what you mean. That particular word was a struggle for me and my LOI and I knew what the bottom line was going to be first so ended up backsolving using the instructions so think I’m ok there.

Gitto, from the other thread....

I made the mistake of filling in the last letter of 37 D from what I had going across the bottom row, forgetting the thematic instruction. The answer to the clue itself ends in a different letter. I think the misprint is a B, the second letter in the entry is not U. Shorten a five-letter word for 'set on fire'....

Enjoyed this very much and have a complete grid and think I have completed the instructions.
Just one parsing query.
41a 'Monkeys dropped...' I'm reasonably sure which group of clues this belongs to and what the definition is. Just struggling with the 'New world trees in Savannahs. Are these 2 letter trees?
Thanks.

No, it's a 4-letter tree pluralised, a double def clue.

Nice puzzle; enjoyed seeing my favourite work by the author in question.

Can anyone give me a nudge on the parsing of 27d and 33d?
