30A is a theme entry.
It's a 9 letter verbal form of the word I think you have entered.

Finished, with little difficulty. But I don't understand the significance of the first two extra letters; the rest make a confirmatory quotation.

SP is abb for latin term Sine Prole, meaning without offspring.

So, remove the children from the grid . . . and in comes the strangest figure.

I'm having a torrid time with this one. Just can't get on the wavelength of the setter. Probably not helped by my reaction to the flu jab (:o(
Even with 75%+ of the grid filled, including 24a, and having worked out the extra letter hints I struggle with parsing a number that I've solved eg 21d, 1d.
Biggest gap is 9a so any help with that would be appreciated and will help me confirm my top few down solutions.
Thanks.

9A. Extra letter is 'a' in aid.

Every year = PA (per annum).
Corrupt = ROT.
The very thing = IT, which is then concealed/ hidden inside '(a)id is'.

Granama, 9 A is a disorder, medical condition. The 'each year' is the usual two-letter abbreviation, then a three letter 'corrupt', go off, two letters from the next word in the clue+ two letters for 'the very thing'+ a two letter word in the clue.

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks Malone and Nelson. Doh. I'd entered the usual spelling of 6d. No wonder my Chambers app just shrugged at my efforts. Looks like my 4d and 5d are correct...now I just need to work out why!
