Threw it down at 6pm and went for dinner. Came back, gave it another go and have just finished - though the parsing of 18 isn't obvious to me

Hi tatters, think of a word as a suffix usually added to the "thing" there's a scandal about removed from the end of part of the wordplay.

LOL. Took me a while to parse yours but got there eventually! Thanks as ever.

Well that was not hard: not much over the hour with the end game helping to solve my last two at 2 and 18. Fun to solve and not too many obscurities.

Just finished and found the end game rather quickly (for me at least). All I have to do now is convince myself that I have the correct letter at the end of 18a - and that is now beginning to really frustrate me.
