My money was on Tyke for either 9 or 12 and I entered quite late because all the early clues seemed to have covered things. I came up with Petr Cech, the man in the hat, after an overnight ponder.

I expect you know the derivation is fromShah mat, the king is dead. Thank goodness for online chess during the lockdown.

Yes Paul I am a chess player in the UK though my days playing in tournaments, 4ncl, league chess has been cut back, not only due to lock down, but work commitments. I play on line at lichess, chess.com, and chess24 when I get some spare time.
