Chrise, 'mass possibly' e.g. 'mass hysteria'.

I have to say that's a bit tenuous as a definition!

It rather rmeinds me of the O.Henry story "Calloway's code"!

Cheers Mattrom it's good to know that you go the extra mile when appraising clues
I have used that on numerous occasions Strat for d or per for m etc, I stole it from Ginge
Anyway till next time I'll try and come up with something that's as fertile as hysteria

Well done, Fiery; I had yours marked as a winner. Nice to imagine the atheists atoning. I just missed Richard Dawkins at school; I joined the same boarding house the term after he left. Don't know if he influenced my near contemporaries who were anti school chapel services. I just loved singing the hymns.

Thanks for the joint silver, Mattrom, and for the thoughtful judgments.

Nice idea, fiery! Thanks for the mention, mattrom. (Isn't it the contestants who usually jump the gun?)

paulh: I too love singing hymns, and give me a good descant on the trompette en chamade.

I'm in the habit of going for a dip in the cold water of Penobscot Bay in the evening, the last couple of times in utter solitude. It was reported yesterday that a woman was eaten by a great white in Casco Bay a bit up the coast (in Maine up is south, against the wind). I figure that there are worse ways to go, and have pictured the diner coughing up my seersucker trunks.

Well done Fiery - well deserved win! Thanks for the mention Mattrom - members being in different time zones can be problematic - perhaps we should all move to Sydney?

If you haven't come across "Calloway's code", follow the link I posted. It's quite a short story, and rather funny!

Well done fiery, a worthy winner, and thanks for the honourable mention, Mattrom. We keep getting very easy “primarily” clues in the Observer Everyman each Sunday which always seem to actually include the word “primarily” as the indicator.

I set myself the little challenge of trying to do a more nuanced version (or two). 🙂
