If I may generalise I would describe members of this forum as bright, curious and educated.

Yet I'm rather puzzled by the negativity displayed at the use of Brewer's by setters.

Brewer's may be £30 to buy, so if you're hard up I understand but £30 isn't a lot to pay for a wonderful lifetime book that nurtures the bright, curious and educated.

This is a genuine and sincere enquiry, I don't quite understand the angst...

I gave in and bought it after the regimental nicknames Listener and am pleased I did. It's one of those books that is a pleasure to browse at random. The down side is it feeds the habit of saying 'Well I never, did you know that....' to anyone in earshot!
