Please help explain these answers - I had them correct by using the synonyms and cross letters but I can't figure out the cryptic reasoning. I have a feeling they're overconvoluted...

2 Hacker's computer drive's complete (6) = cutter

18 American's to aimlessly mooch around club (6) = putter

hacker - cutter
C is a computer drive
utter - synonym for complete eg utter rubbish/complete rubbish

putter means to aimlessly mooch (North American for potter)

That split infinitive in "to aimlessly mooch" completely skewed my thought processes. Never heard that americanism.
C and Utter are quite straightforward really. I see that now.
