Hello every one

Can anyone help with this Six letter Linkword please

CARDINAL _ _ _ _ _ _ SIGNALLING

I thought it maybe "MARKER" as in marine navigation buoys
But is there something called "Marker Signalling" ??
or is it something else

Hi rays
I asked last eek how this puzzle works, but you obviously didn't see it. How do you sometimes know some letters?

Fit 10 words into a grid so each links with the end of the word on its left
and the beginning of the word on the right
Each line has a one shaded square that has a letter that makes up a ten letter answer to the main clue. in this case "REPUBLICAN" answer to the main clue= " A supporter of one of the US two main political parties"

Our job is to unscramble the shaded squares to make a word
Best if i was to draw a diagram

Interesting Chris, thank you. I'd never heard it.

Like you I wondered why posters have some idea of which letters are needed.
They solve the clue first and then work out which letters are required afterwards.
Thanks Rays, you don't need to give a diagram.

Sometimes it may help to solve the main clue by guessing where the letters are in the linkword shaded squares by working out the correct linkword
