16d - name of a Swiss cheese
31d - an anagram but it gives the French name of a country
30a - the anagram you suggest. It is in Chamber Word Wizard
41a - homophone (suggested by heard through headphones) and you need a West Yorkshire city.

Apart from the ones that I've had hints for, I can't solve any more of the non themed clues.
36a Carefully tilts moving ring to the end (two words) ?us???
I think I want a phrase meaning carefully that it clued by the a word meaning tilts which has the letter o in it which goes to the end. But I can't think of it.
44a Contribute towards entering engagement ???a?e .
34d More than one fogey is active hosting party . d?d???. Could be do for party , fogey could be dodo but that's as far as I can get.
37d Better introductions to others in literary themes. ?o?o? . I'm guessing that the introductions are the first letters of some words but can't see it.

I'm a 18 handicapper playing with scratch golfers!
Thanks

Loubylou, for 34, just pluralise your answer!
36 - think of knights on horseback, then move the 'o'

37 A three-letter word, noun, for 'Better' + add the 'introductions' for the other two letters. It was a new word to me, means literary themes.
