I am struggling on this but will battle on for a bit longer. Does it match the recent high standard of EVs?

I think this weekend has exposed quite a range of opinions where standards are concerned, jigjag.
If you read the thread, a couple of posts suggest it might be worth the effort.

I've resolved the clashing letters, but before I start on the search for the 17 cells I'd like a few parsings cleared up.....

6a I have a word meaning "a compound eye"

7d i have a "memory device"

28a I have a word meaning "dafter" - my word has a K as the 4th letter

Are these right, and if so, how are they parsed?

Thanks

brendan,
I have the same answers.

7d. Captain ???? in M(erchant) N(avy) (Verne)

28a. First three letters mean beetle, last four is a bleach vat.

Did not parse 6a.

Hi Brendan, I have the same words, (I think), with 7d being a hypothetical unit of memory rather than a device.

7d. is a famous captain in an abb. for Merchant Navy
28a. is a 3-letter word for something that collects dung + a word for a container that holds bleach.
6a..I'm not sure. The first 3 letters come up as an order on Google, but not in my 13th. ed. Chambers.
'one' can be A, but if it's an anagram of 'tea', then the indicator is missing. Perhaps there is a different explanation.

That's brilliant, many thanks Mattrom.

PS Can't believe I missed the captain in 7d - it's practically shouting out:-)

Hi again Sunray and Mattrom,

With regards 6a what exactly is the definition -"bits of a fly" seems very loose?
