Would welcome some tips for solving 19A. Clue is: 'Cat' anagram (anag) is 'act'? (5,5). I have ...N. ….. but can't work out the anagram - which I think it is.

You're right that it's an anagram. Think of an important act that was signed in 1215.

The anagrist is ANAGRAM & ACT with 'act' being the definition - the ? being a hint that it's doing double duty, so the clue is rather unsound.

Not wishing to be overly pedantic but the anagram comes from the word CAT and the word ANAGRAM.

“Act” is the clue, it was an act signed by King John. 🙂

Thanks to all who responded. I dropped History at school at age 14 so never covered the act in question (or perhaps answer). Just three more now!

Feel free to post the 3 you still need! I know many of us here will aim to guide without actually giving the answer.

Everyman 3,825. Last one!

Thanks for the help with previous query. 'Old cove coming before academic for mighty battle.'

I have .r.a.e.d.n

I presume last three are 'don' but can't crack the battle. Tips appreciated.

Yes, "don" is correct.
The four letters before that, are a word for "old".
