Stumped by:
15d Clanger dropped equipping this (4,5). Bell tower? Why 'tower'?
20d Get up to cook old fellows grub (4).
22d Where to tie up princess once (6). Crossing letters suggest Marina, but why?

I didn't know why it was tower either. Had a look at answer sites and none the wiser.

20D word for type of "grub" that you cook

22d Princess Marina....there is a Kinks song about her.....she had a hat apparently, and marina- a small harbour.

The one that really got my goat is "American's right where the queen's portrait is" 2,3,5

(is it an American expression? The clue works better without it!)

Thank you. I agree with you about "American's right where the queen's portrait is", just one of several poor clues.
As for Princess Marina, who on earth was she?

The saying 'On the money' derived from North America according to my dictionary.

If the answer is 'Food' I can only presume Do O(ld) F(ellow) reversed.

As for 'Bell tower' I have no idea.

Who knows what the setter is thinking. The clues may be devilishly clever or they just may be very poor.
