I have a completed grid apart from the three unclued words andMI have made a three word phrase from the 16 altered letters. If I have the correct three words they are baffling me. I have also discovered what is to me a mystery word from the clashing letters (in a diagonal). Can someone please give me an almighty big shove?

hi jogamel,
Don't want to spoil it by giving too much away at this early stage - but the correct letters in clue order spell out where to find the instruction and the name of the work that the puzzle is based on.

I'm wondering why you have a 3 word phrase - I have two words in that diagonal (a role) which changes to another role (one word) when the alternate letters are selected.
Could you have made a mistake with one of the clashes?

I see what you mean now - yes, there is a 3 word phrase given by the alterations to definitions.

Thank you. It’s the instruction I can’t get from the three word phrase. I get the diagonal and its clashes. Also I know the work. But I don’t know which way round to enter 6 and 39. Another kick please if you will.

...jogamel - you are looking at the clues for the following instruction (not the answers)?

Nice puzzle, and all the nicer for being a bit easier than the last few!
I don't have 2d though.
To finish, Detroit's descendent, venerated symbol with confidence primarily rising.(4) I have CI??

lumen,
2d is the American (hence Detroit) of a word we usually begin with an 'S'. The definition can be a descendant or branch of a family.
