Stumped on 41d: Fails to meet to pay for drink (6,2).
*N*N*S UP. Have checked all the clues giving the letters and am sure they're correct. Anyone help?
Also 21a: Angel dust haul abandoned by a copper (2,4).
I have P* P*O*. Again I'm sure the letters are correct.

21 PC Plod, copper. PCP is angel dust, a drug (Rusty gave the full details on an earlier post) + Lo(a)d.

Thanks Malone! It raises an interesting problem with 43a: Macho types going topless by day? Correct. (8).
I had EMENDING based on He-men and going both topless - EMEN and ING incorporating D for day. That gave me the first N instead of the T in STANDS. Worked quite nicely I thought, rather better than EMENDATE which it now must be. Date = by day? Not too sure.

Glad we could help, despard.

I think 43 is He-men, macho types, with the H dropped (topless) +Date, day. Emen date.

Stuck on one parsing - can you help? 25a: Took off gripping one comedian in the end, receiving undemanding pap?
The answer has to be SPOONFED. I have got to SPED as being took off, leaving me with OONF. I guess GOON might be a comedian but am stuck with an F.

Thanks stevie gee. I had considered that, but could not reconcile "spoofed" with "took off". Could it be a new meaning to something which I thought to be "tricked"?
