I'm assuming the line-break in "second" in the clue is accidental but I've included it anyway just in case.

Crossing letters L_G_R. Has to be Lager but can't see why.

69d City partnered with Detroit.

Answer is Adelaide (Australian cities are required for the theme).

Can't find a straight or cryptic link between the two. Any thoughts?
