Another one very much at the easy end of the scale and, possibly, an ideal entry point for those new to the world of cryptic crosswords.

As seems to be the norm now, there are quite a few anagrams and I thinkt there are more 'hidden' clues than usual.

I don't know if this counts as a theme but there seems to be a lot of 'apology' type clues - 1a, 21a and 9d, to name but a few.

My COD is 4d - it did make me chuckle.

Please feel free to leave a comment or, if in doubt, ask for some hints.

Hi Brendan
Couldn't agree more -- half an hour today. I reckon 4D is verging on genius, and 12A is a very elegant clue, too.

An enjoyable crossword today. Perhaps on the easier scale as has been said, but some fun challenges. 4d very good, as is 21a and 14a. I hope that the new setter is settling down now!! I used to so look forward to the Everyman crossword, but it's been a bit of a bumpy ride of late! Regards to all.

To add to Brendan's list of 'apology' type clues, sadly these days 18a is pretty widespread.
8d seems a bit dubious to me but otherwise not too difficult.

Nice today and pretty easy. 9d and 21a reflect my mood. However, I’m stuck on 2: 22d and 24a. I’m assuming everyone has the puzzle. Also don’t understand the parsing of 12a.
Thanks.

Hi everyone. One clue to go and it's 1a. A loud attack? Well, sadly, yes. (6,2)

I have C-R-I- / S-. This must be wrong so hints please, not the answer. Thanks!

Hello guys - thanks for the quick response. Perhaps you can see from the clue why I thought it might be 'C' !!

22d: if you add gold before the answer, you get the name of a few upscale locations in the world. 12a: the answer is contained within the preceding sentence in reverse. However, I’m not sure about 24a myself.
