I thought they discouraged a whole puzzle themed around a living person due to the risk of 'death / dishonour'. I think they've always been ok with clues / individual entries.

Do we think the name that is also an entry is one of the names to highlight? I can see two relevant people but one is just a surname and one is both names, so arguably this is three names. And I can't see how any combo is remotely analogous to the clash pattern?

Came to me at 2am lying in bed, as often happens with these things. I now understand.

Well done

A possible explanation is flag-related, in which case one would have expected to see diagonals on the left?

The first definition of ‘analogy’ in Chambers is the relevant one.

Excellent three hourish puzzle. "Analogous" did have me puzzled, but the highlighting is unambiguous (I think).'🤞

all done ... just wondering ... do the 7 new letters in the clash cells make a word or something? (sorry if i am missing the obvious!)

I may have this wrong, but the "final pattern" of the highlighted squares looks to me like the logo of a political party. Not sure I am right because I am struggling to see the "analogy ".

See woodlouse comment above for a strong hint as to how they are analogous. Took me a long time to see it. And it’s arguably missing diagonals, as also commented above.
