Thanks, syzygy and Sunray. I enjoyed this, though I struggled with quite a few of the clues (and some of those were the numbered ones!). There are always good clues in the setter's puzzles - I especially liked the Footnote one and the Caps one. I found the Dead parrot one a little disappointing.

Thanks yet again syzygy and sunray, I agree it's one of my favourite formats. I particularly liked the "a"s in both (6) & (7).

12 letters a brought a smile.
6 letters a was the last one I solved.

Overall very enjoyable.

Most enjoyable. Thanks! I too thought the parrot clue pretty lame.

Aristo..., thanks - the Dead Parrot clueing/joke seemed positively ancient to me, hence my disappointment!

Grateful for the scans and uploads. I can't find Harper's in the libraries near where I now live. "What's your purpose coming over the border?" "Scan the Harper's crossword from the library."

I checked the forum rules and helping people with the crossword clues is explicit in the charter so i continue:

Some of the clues are opaque to me. I entered a few answers only because the crossed squares filled in suggested a likely word, such as 31 Across or 14 Across, but I haven't yet matched them to their Six Letter Word clues. I attempted "reverse-solve" to match the completed entries with the a)-> j) clues and some still escape me.

Three uncrossed letters in the upper right section are blank: on a 12x12 Scrabble board they'd be: K4, K6 and G7. Two possible answers for 8 Down , three for 22 Across.
I'm 98% sure I know the letter for K4.

My request:
mental repunctuation of both of those entries
or,
categories of the clue (e.g. homophone, charade, double meaning)
or
giving the letter that connects them both a number value (e.g. A = 1, Z = 26), presenting the unchecked letters as variable expressions, like K6 = K7 - 8.

Whatever guides me to the 'aha' moment but is not a spoiler, please.

KB:

This is an American magazine with a lots of references to terminologies
in the US.
I wish you had given clue numbers such 6a or 7b or 12 c.

6a (Your G7) refers to the first letter of a drink made from grape.

American college in not some University. This college is used every 4 years after Presidential election.

Hope this helps.

It does help, thanks. I previously assigned SEVEN-LETTER WORDS clue f to another word, based on what I identified in the clue.

I asked my US husband for help with 7f, and he didn't give any.

KeisterButton, I loved this puzzle and would like everyone to have the same enjoyment. I'd offer to help with your queries, but I mucked up trying to turn my completed grid into your suggested Scrabble board! I was further thrown by your 'giving the letter that...' suggestion near the end of your first post. Maybe it's because it's late at night, but it seems an awfully complicated manoeuvre!
