...I know I've come across Radler's puzzles before now - maybe the Crossword Centre's monthly puzzle slot, maybe IQ or EV?

Full grid apart from the first letter of 13 across.

I can't parse the original entries at 35 across and 45 across which have to be 9 letters and seven letters respectively.

I have to own that I became irritated with some of the clueing in this one, which I didn't feel to be terribly fair. This is in contrast to this week's Listener which I thought contained some tortuous but ultimately very fair clues. This is, of course, my own subjective opinion.

35a.
Exotic form of rug (URG) is warehoused in misplaced form of behind (EDINBH).

45a.

Money = DOUGH. In want of ultimate letter = DOUG.
Girl + LASS. In want of ultimate letter = LAS.

Thanks, nelson - that's a double DOH from yours truly.

I probably sound like a sore loser, but "housed" would have made me happier! No excuses for missing 45a.

HI bobbycollins - I agree with you about 'warehouses'. I wondered for quite a while if there was some hidden significance, but decided there wasn't.
Also agree with your comments generally about cluing. But I found it a very enjoyable puzzle all the same. And a very clever idea for a theme.
Even once it was cracked, it was still hard work - no easy sort cuts on Google!

Thanks for that, nelson.

I hate to be churlish about puzzles since the setters put in loads of graft for our entertainment - for scant reward. But sometimes mild criticism may be helpful. It was an enjoyable puzzle but I'm still in the dark about the former capital *INGU!!

Thanks drxx - that's another DOH. I had "ANTE" for the down payment and wondered why I couldn't parse it!!

At my age I should have learned that If you can't parse it there's a good chance that it is incorrect.

Yes, bobbycollins - but it was hard to be sure with some of the clues in this one.
