Have several 3/4 words for a sailor ie salt, tar, crew, hand but not getting anywhere. Any more clues would be appreciated please and thanks.

Ok got it now thanks. Will plod on with the rest myself as I am sure many of my answers are incorrect so will need to recheck them all. Unfortunately some of us aren’t as clever as others and often we are made to feel very small on this site. Answerbank contributors are more sympathetic. Au revoir.

Don't get despondent Haremail. I set these type of quizzes and know from replies that some people find them harder than others, particularly if they are new to them. It takes time to work out all of the different ways to set questions.
Rainbow quizzes are more complex then most. Keep trying and good luck.

Haeremai18, I'm sorry you feel you've been made to feel very small. This site has a lot of helpful people who're happy to give and receive answers - and not just when it's the Rainbow Quiz, but every day, every week, every month and so on.

I've always been a bit baffled by the urgency of Rainbow Quizzers - there's over a month to go until the closing date, yet people seem very anxious to get answers for their last three, six, nine...whatever clues. I sometimes put a quiz aside and don't look at it for a week or two - when I come back refreshed, I'm more likely to come up with a few more answers.

Thank you kwizzer and malone for your kind words. I will keep trying and hopefully complete before the closing date but will not worry if I don’t.

I am still confused over:-
85. crafty inmate whose name suggests that he could make the feathers fly. (8) and
71. He had an unusual post at the Central Criminal Court and was booked for it (3.1.4.)
Can any one point me in the right direction here please?

85. Need to cast your mind back to an old tv comedy featuring a prison and the main character who always beat the system.

71. Need to follow the clues in the question. Crown Office initially + rotten (meaning anagram) apple with 'a' way........
