Baffled by 24a: Shut up a chimp in the house, say, with workout video (9, two words). I have ?HA?ETAPE. Pretty confident of the crossers but this must be an expression I've never come across before. Can anyone offer a hint please?

I raised my eyebrow too! The first five letters rhyme with TAPE...

I'd never heard of it before, but the answer makes perfect sense. Break it into two parts...

Shut up - gives the beginning
A chimp in the house, say ….. gives the next part, which could really be three words (but isn't!)

The whole thing must mean 'workout video', but I haven't checked my dictionaries.

Thank you both. I came to that conclusion too but cannot verify the phrase anywhere!

Piffleworthy, I've checked my (three) dictionaries, and the phrase isn't in any of them. The Spectator gives copies of Chambers as prizes, but I can't remember ever seeing any reference to 'Chambers 16th ed is recommended' or anything similar.
