Help needed please with last two in:

28a "Footballer once slim was willing" (7,4)

O?T?I?E ?E?T Looks like it must be OUTSIDE LEFT for footballer (once?) but not sure how the slim was willing fits.

40d "Eat heartily in Oz when one from Germany stuffs spicy duck" (3,4)

H?E ?N?O

Hi Gooner,

40d HOE INTO (It's an Australian term meaning "eat heartily")

One from Germany = EIN

Spicy = HOT + O (Duck)

As for 28a I couldn't see a connection either.

A slim chance, an outside chance.

28a I've just checked elsewhere and it's...

Outside = Slim (as in outside/slim chance of....)

Willing = Left as in having 'Left' someone something in a 'Will'

PS I would never have got it.

Re 28a: Could this be outside / slim as in chance?
left - willing ...as in left in a will?

Thanks brendan, ginge and elle.

The Aussie term a new one on me and the football clue works but seems a bit of stretch.
