Thanks, Syzygy - and Sunray too, of course. I enjoyed this - much more my thing than the previous puzzle. I liked 11 D...

Last time's was beyond me, have done about a quarter of this. So far I like 21 ac, it's not wildly clever but I did smile. We used to have one of them, not seen one for a long time. Is 22dn a proper noun?

Rosalind, my 22 D is a very ordinary word, I'm not sure what a 'proper noun' is!

Thanks, Malone. Occasionally I get mentioned. (-;
A proper noun is one that is capitalized, like one's name.

NB: There was an error in the magazine.
They printed the solution for the current puzzle instead of August.
I've removed the above link. Please use this instead:

and let me know if there are any errors.

Thanks for the thanks, syzygy. You may have been on the sidelines, but at least you were featured.

Thanks too for the 'proper noun' information. I tend to ignore much of the stuff in the preamble, it sometimes confuses me - 'are uncommon', for example, used to have me looking for rarer words.

Last month's puzzle was a lot of work.
This one is straightforward once you figure out the theme.
You will finish this soon, rosalind.

This puzzle has an American angle.
#45 (POTUS) may have a tough time solving this puzzle. I think.

Thanks S and S. Did you find your name through crosswords, SY?

Have done all now except a few in the SW corner. How many words are there in 16 dn, please?
