Plosive, abrupt sound? It'd be an anagram of 'ole VIPs'.

Thanks malone. Not sure really. Plosive doesn't seem to fit the description but i've never encountered the word. I will give it a whirl though.

Manudave, I think it's right. I put a question mark only because I didn't have access to a dictionary. I've since checked, and plosive relates to some consonantal sounds (the definition is a bit dreary!). The word developed from 'explosive'.
