woodlouse, that is what I have at 22d. I still cannot crack 22a.
WA?M?N.
Warman? What is parsing?

The only 4 letter word is With in 22a.
If that is coded which word?

Sunray, the definition in 22a is encoded.
'With' = W.
'arresting' is a container indication

Not sure, but I suspect Sabre has set a trap regarding the odd one out. One I found is so far from the other four that I'm highly suspicious.

Thanks murky.
I thought def may not be coded.

I see a problems with 22d.
If BUY = ERS, then B=E.

But Porgie's E comes from S= E.

Also please give me one that goes the other way. Is 25d one of them?

Thanks.

Ships in the night, Sunray.
25 d can only convert to cabron. But I have Bents>Douce? Is there a Cauron?

Struggling with this one but not yet given up - though I suspect I will.

As ever this thread is very supportive and I would be grateful if somebody could confirm that PORGIE (35a) and PYROPE (15a) are coded words (thanks Turast). If so I'll have another go.

I am stuck on 22 down. Can anyone help me parse it and if so what is the coded word. I'd also greatly appreciate a nudge on 18 down.

thanks goodness there is no Rugby anywhere this weekend!

For 22dn I have WIN-G-UMS. Buy-Ums=Ers.
Maybe wrong though as I haven’t finished the decoding.

I have qualms with some of the clueing:

24a: While SET OFF is perfectly fine to clue START, I don't see how START OFF means SET

32a: ONE KILLED bugs me as the def of a killer

33a: Hispaniola sailor is pretty obscure

13d: Using Levi as an eponym for Italian bugs me

18d: I think that decoding the word should still result in a clue that parses. ELANCE is only a verb so 'half of elance' is nonsensical.
