You need the quotation in order to resolve the ambiguities (and the title)

You don't need the quotation, Midgers. I resolved the ambiguities first, and that helped me to find the quotation.

Completed the puzzle but I cannot find the location of the quotation. I have tried using Google unsuccessfully. Any ideas as to how to access the location?

I now have the title of the work thanks to ginge’s comment earlier, but I still can’t find the quote. Would also be interested to hear how others found it.

Enter the title, performed by Alan Mandell on You Tube around 3.20

Just watched it, thanks. How did you find that?

Thank you woodlouse. That avenue of approach to pinpointing the quotation didn’t cross my mind

I managed to finish the puzzle knowing nothing of the quote or play. Having just watched the u-tube clip (thanks for the tip), I'm very happy to stay in ignorance. Far too erudite for me!

The quotation isn't from a play, planks, but that is splitting hairs. What I like most about the author is that he played first class cricket, albeit only a couple of games. It makes him seem a bit more human, somehow. And Albert Camus was a goalkeeper! I wonder if the two ever met..?
